5 Tips How To Repurpose Leggings

leggings from Legging Army

Leggings are the hottest trend right now and why shouldn't they be? They are so comfortable that you can sleep in them!

Sometimes with over wearing or over washing, you're leggings get holes in them. That's why it is so important to follow the washing directions. If you're favorite leggings end up with a hole or some other type of rip, don't throw them away...repurpose them!

If you are into DIY then you can do almost anything with you're leggings. Here are 5 tips:

1. Create shorter leggings for your child's doll just like Lindsay shows you in her blog post.

2. Make a crop top! These are very trendy and would look great! Take a look at this tutorial from the DIY & Crafts blog post

3. Make drink holders or hair accessories like Gretchen did out of her leggings.

4. Create cool lamp shades for your house! Follow this tutorial from Vintage Revivals

 5. Every outfit needs some type of jewelry so what a great way to make fabric bracelets out of leggings! Saved by Love Creations

Repurpose Almost Dead Flowers

Since Valentine's day is over, you are probably going to wonder what to do with your flowers that your loved one bought you. Instead of letting them rot away and throwing them out, why not do something fun and creative with it? Some tips are...

Frame them

If you’re looking for personal touches to add to your walls and shelves, why not take your bouquet of flowers and frame it? This is especially meaningful when the flowers were a gift from someone special, or remind you of an amazing date night with your beau. Here’s how to find your inner Martha Stewart and frame your bouquet of flowers.

Make a wreath / new centerpiece

Why spend a fortune on holiday wreaths when you can make your own? Hang them on doors, windows or even on the wall. We’ve got plenty of wreath making ideas to choose from.

Add them to candles

Melt small candles and use the wax to paint pressed flowers onto existing candles. Place a layer of wax onto the candle, press your flowers onto it (tweezers work well), then paint several layers of wax on top.

These are only some of the creative things you can do. Check out this blog post and find more ideas.

Do you have any tips of what you do with your flowers? I would love to hear about it! Comment below.

Glass Cutting Made Simple!

My husband and I have been married for 5 years and for 5 years I have been wanting to take our favor which was a bottle of wine and make a candle holder out of the empty bottle. Life got in the way and I have forgotten about it until today! I came across this great site and I thought I would share it with everyone. It is step by step instructions on how to cut glass.

The steps are...
  1. Fill your sink with cold water.
  2. Wrap yarn around the bottle 5-6 times.  Use yarn instead of string.  Because of its fluffy fibers, it's more flammable than string.
  3. Snip the ends of the yarn off.
  4. Slip the yarn off the bottle, and dip it in fingernail polish remover.  Saturate it well.
  5. Slip the yarn back on the neck of the bottle in the place you want to cut the glass.  Position in the right spot.
  6. With a match or lighter, light the yarn on fire.  Rotate the bottle while its burning to evenly burn the bottle and heat the glass.
  7. After about 20-25 seconds, dunk the bottle in the cold water to break the glass.
  8. Remove the string.
  9. Sand the edges.  Be careful!  They will be sharp.
Click on the website to see photos and other information about how to cut glass with yarn and nail polish remover.

Once I get a chance to do this, I will post photos of the results. Have you done this or know someone who has? I would love to hear about it!

DIY Make Your Own Laundry Detergent

Ok so I know what all of you are saying...."make your own laundry detergent?!? Why not just buy it at the store" Well, first of all, they can get expensive (unless you are an extreme couponer and end up getting them for free which I would love to do that if someone can show me how or give me your coupons!)

I have been tossing around the idea of doing it so I hunted down some information and recipes and I found this great site that gives you instructions if you would like to make a liquid detergent or powdered detergent. (http://www.southernsavers.com/2013/01/recipes-for-homemade-laundry-detergent/)

I also like the fact that it breaks down prices of the ingredients vs the store bought detergent which ends up to be a lot cheaper! This is the break down...

Fels-Naptha Soap Bar, $1.19 (~1 cup)
20 Mule Team Borax, 76 oz, $4.39 (~9.5 cups) = 46¢ per cup
Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, 55 oz, $3.19 (~7 cups) = 45¢ per cup

To calculate the per load price, I just added up the cost of the ingredients and divided by the number of loads.

Powdered Detergent: 5.26¢ per load
Liquid Detergent: 1.32¢ per load

Depending what you choose, the cost is between 1 and 5¢ per load! As we have seen, store bought detergent prices ranges from 4¢-20¢ per load with coupons & sales.

These prices are from Publix which is a grocery store that is not located in my area since I am in New York but keep in mind that the prices may be different in your area.

Once I will make a batch, I will let you know the outcome. If you decide to make your own, let me know how it goes!

Repurpose Thanksgiving Turkey

I found this site called Nola.com. There is a great article called "27 ways to repurpose that leftover Thanksgiving turkey".

"Sometimes it seems as if you'll never be finished eating that holiday turkey, especially when the meal looks much the same as it did on Thanksgiving Day. But there's a lot more you can do with turkey than put it on a plate and smother it with gravy."

10 Tips to Save Money

1. Laundry: This is a 2-part tip, so you are already getting more for your money ;) a) Use less detergent. The label says use a full cup; but I use only half a cup and my clothes come out clean. b) Wash All Your Clothes in Cold Water! Did you also know that over 90% of energy used in doing laundry comes from heating the water? That’s crazy!! Just wash all your clothes on “cold” and save on your electricity bill. Cold water gets the smell out just as well as hot water.

2. Let it mellow: Flush the toilet only after you use it 2-3 times. Have you heard the saying “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down”? Well, now you know and aren’t you so happy I shared it? I bet you’re going to be reciting this little ditty all day now. You can thank me later ;) Oh, and I didn’t think you needed a visual on this one. You’re welcome.

3. Battery Life: Use rechargeable batteries for electronics and toys. Store batteries in the refrigerator. They last longer. Yes, it means a bit of an investment initially, but it pays for itself and FAST! Oh, one more tidbit…if your battery life is getting low – try transferring it over to a low-power appliance (eg. alarm clock, remote control etc.) to stretch out the life even more! Just don’t mix old and new batteries, okay?

4. FREEZE! Fill empty soda 2-liter bottles 3/4 full of water and stick in your freezer, one to a shelf. If the electricity should go off; it helps save all your food. When the family goes on a trip or picnic, we place them into the cooler. No buying ice and everything stays cold.

5. Accept hand-me-downs. You can donate them if you can’t use them. Besides, you will look so much cooler when your kids aren’t dressed in the cookie-cutter clothes all of their friends are in :) Kids grow so fast, there is nothing wrong with doing the second-hand thing. Thrift stores are also great to check out – talk about eclectic! LOVE!

6. Use WHAT on my WHERE? Instead of facial tissues, use toilet paper, which costs less. Remove the cardboard core from a roll and throw away. Then place the roll inside an empty square tissue box and pull from the center of the roll through the opening. Reuse the same box over and over! Nice.

7. Reuse things. An example: Plastic grocery bags can be reused as lunch bags, shoe bags, liners for a small trash can or wastebasket or laundry bags on vacation. And just because I LOVE you, I’m going to share one of my favorite tricks for plastic bags. Watch and learn my young padawan.

8. Return it: If you’ve bought stuff that you haven’t used, see if you can return it. Get honest with yourself. Haven’t used something in 6 months? You won’t miss it. Not only can you get some bucks back, but your house will feel so much lighter and open with all of the useless clutter gone. Right? Right.

9. Wash and re-use Ziplock bags. Too much? I think not! We are saving pennies, people!

10. Use water from boiling eggs or pasta to water your plants. Make sure it’s cooled off first.
